As human beings we have the ability to help each other. As human beings we
have the ability to harm each other. We wound others; we ourselves are wounded
by others. We can and must cut through our hurting hearts, our essential
loneliness, our fears and sadness and negativities in order to transform
the experiencing of our lives from war to dance.
Space Meditation, a practice of ultimate non-aggression, is designed for
any two people who can continue to practice together beyond this one-day
workshop. This dyadic meditation practice enables each partner to help the
other into a calm, peaceful and balanced state. With increased spaciousness
and clarity of mind, each one learns to relax without distraction and without
losing awareness. Awareness is the great pearl for it alone does not collect
negative emotions, does not accumulate habit patterns, does not cause suffering.
Clear Light Space Meditation is the natural progression of the Clear Light Society's
thirty years of service to the elderly, the sick, and the dying.
Based on the dyadic meditative model originated by Founding Teacher Patricia Shelton
specifically for assisting the old and dying, Clear Light practices proved
consistently helpful, sometimes startlingly and dramatically so (i.e. helping
the terminally ill person beyond physical and emotional pain altogether).
It was inevitable that this new model of meditation would evolve into a
form helpful to any interested pair, sick or well. Directed to this work
in 1971 by her first teacher,
Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche,
Ms. Shelton was
subsequently encouraged and given teachings by
Very Venerable Kalu Rinpoche
and
Zen Master Seung Sahn.
